Happy to say I didn’t fall off the exercise wagon, but during yesterday’s workout I struggled to complete my entire routine. As mentioned in a previous post, I usually do my weight training first, followed by some sort of cardio (swimming, bike and/or treadmill). The day before I had an excellent time on the treadmill and though I still can’t run for long, I did increase the elevation and speed of my walks. I actually sweat now
Oh yea, and I can walk about 10 minutes longer at the increased elevation/speed.
Then there was yesterday…
15 minutes int my cardio workout and I just couldn’t continue on the treadmill. No pain, no exhaustion and I did have my iPod on with the high tempo mix that usually gets me in the perfect workout mood. Previously I’ve experience this, where at some point in the routine I loose all motivation to continue. However in the past I’ve fought though it and completed what I started. Yesterday was different though, no motivation and I just got off the beast and went home. As I drove home I searched for answers as to why I lacked motivation to complete what I know me and my body need – to get fit. 24 hours later and I’m no longer looking for “answers”, but for ways I can overcome thins.
So how do you get motivated to give it your “all” when you’re at the gym or doing any sort of workout? Here’s what I learned after speaking with a couple friends who’ve gone on to accomplish their goals as far as getting in shape and living a more healthy lifestyle.
- try energy drinks (well this worked for one friend)
- give yourself a regular schedule, so your body knows that this time is “set” as workout time
- music… find workout music that appeals to you and gets you in the spirit of working out
- create a log of some sort. By tracking your progress you’ll be amazed how motivated you’ll be when you start seeing that you outdid the workout the day before.
- drop a few pounds.. nothing gets you more motivated than seeing PROGRESS
Personally I know that the right music gets me in the right frame of mind and I know if I start seeing results (drop a few pounds) I’ll be ballooned with motivation. The tip about logging your daily workout now explains why I see some people at the gym with clipboards writing down stuff. I bet they’re logging or tracking their progress. I believe there’s also websites that gives you tools to log and track your progress, so I’ll have to search one out and create an account. I’ll keep you posted on this as I move forward.
Do you have any motivational tips when it comes to exercising that you’re willing to share? Please leave me a comment in the area provided below.
